I turn 40 in Indonesia.
My husband planned the entire three-week trip and I have absolutely no idea where we're going.
I don't know where we're staying. I don't know what islands we're going to. I don't know what he's booked.
And genuinely?
I don't even care.
Actually, that's probably my favourite part.
Because I'm a mum. I'm a wife. I work full-time. I have my own things going on. I'm always thinking, planning, organising, solving something or making a decision.
And for three weeks, I don't have to.
I just get to exist.
I want more sunrises.
More sunsets.
More ocean.
More bikinis.
More cocktails by the pool.
More doing things simply because they make me feel good.
I'm not going away to find myself.
I'm not having a midlife crisis.
And I'm definitely not coming back with some dramatic announcement about the woman I've decided to become.
I already know who I am.
And I really fucking like her.
Turning 40 doesn't feel like starting over.
It feels like looking at everything I've done, everything I've built, everything I've survived, everything I've experienced and thinking:
Yep. More of that.
Just faster.
Fitter.
Stronger.
Better decisions.
So these aren't 40 rules for living.
They're definitely not advice.
They're just 40 things I know to be true after living my particular little life for almost four decades.
Some are deep.
Some are about work.
Some are about marriage.
Some are probably questionable.
And apparently one of them is about moisturiser.
Anyway.
Here we go.
